At last, here's the official announcement for the battle tournament I've been mentioning in chat over the last few days!
Provisional start date is the last week of March!

This will be a Ladder-style tournament, not a knock-out; everyone will fight the same number of battles, nobody will be eliminated for losing their first match-up!
As for the pokemon you can use, it's restricted to give everyone a fighting chance. No box pokemon, no legends; you're only allowed to bring pokemon you can find out in the wild!
With no advantage for old or premium players, and a full month before it begins in which to find and train a team, there's no excuse not to get involved :)

Team Format

-Team of 6 Pokemon
-max level 50
-Only those found in the wild, or *available* evolutions thereof
-No duplicate pokemon from the same evolutionary line; eeveelutions are the exception to this rule
-Bonus points for having a themed squad

While the pokemon you use have to be available in the wild, they don't necessarily have to be pokemon that you yourself went out and caught. You could have received them in a trade long ago, or even obtained them from boxes or the gold store, but a box/gold store pokemon must be of a species you could go out and find somewhere in the map. For example, looking at the following two pokemon:

The shiny Kingdra was bought in the gold store as a Horsea. But since Horsea can also be found in the wild, and Seadra can be evolved using a dragon scale purchased in the pokemart, this Kingdra is allowed. On the other hand, even though Munchlax can be caught in the wild, friendship is not yet implemented and Munchlax cannot currently be evolved, meaning poor Snorlax is banned. Wurmple will currently only evolve to silcoon, so Dustox would also be banned.
The exception to this is underlevelled evolutions; for example, a level 50 Bisharp obtained from a box would not be allowed, as although Pawniard can be found in the wild it does not naturally evolve until level 52.
Pokemon obtained as quest rewards (namely Mankey, Makuhita, Tyrogue, Mantine) are permitted, as are all starter pokemon.
Mega-evolved pokemon are not permitted.

Regarding the no duplicates rule: no pokemon from the same evolutionary line, other than Eevee and its evolutions, are permitted- so you could neither bring 2 Slaking, nor could you bring both a Slaking and a Vigoroth. You could, however, bring one each of the available eeveelutions if you wanted to (Umbreon, Espeon and Sylveon being banned from the format as they are currently box only). Alolan formes would not be considered duplicates, allowing you to use one of each kind of Ninetales/Muk/Golem.

What counts as a 'themed' squad for those early bonus points? Anything you wish! It could be a mono-type squad, a squad of poke from the same generation, all the same colour, or based around the team of a trainer from the tv series or official games- anything other than "all the strongest ones so I can win" could net you a few extra points to push you past your rivals and onto the podium, perhaps even to the top of it! Gain an advantage over your opponents before you've even fought a battle, but more importantly, have fun building your team!

Battle Format

To mix it up from the sort of PVP some players might be used to, you will have no control over which of your pokemon faces off against your opponent's pokemon!
Before each battle begins, players will arrange their team into the order they wish for them to fight; the battle will then be 6 individual 1v1s, with the first pokemon in your team fighting the first pokemon in your opponents team, the second slot in each team fighting eachother, and so on:

Kingdra vs Gyarados

Flygon vs Arcanine
Dragalge vs Jynx
and so on until all six 1v1s have been fought.
Team order is not fixed between matches; you may shuffle your team from one battle to the next should you wish, but the order must be confirmed before a match-up begins.

Points will be awarded for each of your opponent's pokemon you faint, even if you are defeated, as well as:
-should the scores be tied at the end of a match-up, all remaining pokemon will fight a 3v3 with the HP they had remaining after their 1v1 to determine who receives the extra points for the win;
-bonus points for a 6-0 victory.

Everyone will fight the same number of battles but this number will probably depend upon the number of applicants, and may well take place over the course of a few days to allow players in different regions to meet up and battle; I'll try to arrange match-ups to make this easier while still keeping who fights who as random as possible (you might not need to fight every player who enters). Once all the battles have been fought, points will be totalled and the ranking announced;
everybody will take home a prize, but there'll be extra goodies for those in the top 3 ^_^

No need to declare your team yet, but post here to register! Please only use this thread to register, I'll create another thread in the Forum Games section for all your questions:
http://forum.pokemonrise.com/index.php?threads/battle-tournament-q-a.90/#post-311

That's enough from me, now go out there and get training!

*bump*
Tournament will take place next weekend (23rd and 24th of March)!
I'll be in the Blueleaf Gym from 2pm UTC both days to oversee, if you have any objections or issues with this time please let me know sooner rather than later!
I'll draw up a list of who will be battling who by midweek, for those who might not be able to get on at the same time as everyone else; I'm more than happy for you to arrange battles between yourselves outside of the 'official' event time. This time is not yet fixed so let me know if this does or doesn't suit you and if enough players want it moved it's still possible to do so :)
